Panel: Alberta Workers Describe their Experience with Sanctuary Trauma

In this panel, four people describe their experience in the workplace with Sanctuary Trauma. Coined by Dr. Steven Silver after the Vietnam War, Sanctuary Trauma is used to describe when an individual who suffered a severe stressor, or trauma, then encounters only more trauma from what was expected to be a trusting and supportive environment. Jason, Dianne, John and Ruthanne share their experience with traumatic events and how their workplace either supported or hindered their recovery. Further, they dive deep into how employers and leaders can support their employees through a traumatic event.
